I’ve been ramping up the frequency of my posts over the last month, and I’ve also been tightening the focus of the blog to cover mostly personal finance and investment. In the future, I hope to post more about entrepreneurship and real estate as well. I have several posts in the works that I’m excited about, but I wanted to open it up for suggestions as to what topics you’d like to see me cover. I enjoy doing research and I follow a lot of blogs and websites via RSS every day, so I’m basically offering to help hunt down the answer to any personal finance, investment, real estate, or entrepreneurship questions you might have. Here’s a few ideas off the top of my head:
- How do you find that first job out of college?
- Roth vs. traditional 401k?
- How much should you save for retirement?
- Asset allocation in your retirement portfolio?
- Should you use extra cash to pay down your mortgage or invest?
- What are some ways to get extra cash?
- What are the options for budgeting?
- How do you write a financial plan for your life?
- How do you get started investing in the stock market?
- How do you get started investing in real estate?
- Rent vs. buy? (not always a no-brainer)
I would love to cover all of these topics, and maybe I will, but some comments and suggestions would definitely help me understand what my audience is interested in. Leave a comment or hit up my contact form. Thanks!

I'd like to learn more about simple investing for young adults. I'm not too savvy on a lot of investment tools but I don't want my money to sit around, I want it to be doing something for me. Can you give us some basics of investing and some suggestions on where good places to start would be?
I would definitely like to see an article covering the pros and cons of renting vs buying. Also, my company recently introduced a Roth 401(k) plan. I'd like to see some information on when and why a Roth 401(k) would be preferable to a traditional 401 (k).
Matt,
I definitely plan to cover Rent vs. Buy in the near future, hopefully in May. I rent myself, even though I have rental property in other states, because I think real estate is way too overpriced in my neck of the woods. I'm surprised at how otherwise-financially-savvy people don't seem to understand that while a home may be an investment, that doesn't automatically make it a GOOD investment.
As for the Roth 401k vs. traditional 401k question, I'll be covering both in an upcoming post for my April series, which covers investing for Young Adults. I'll be addressing that any many other questions relating to how best to prepare for retirement.
Thanks for your comments!
I would like your opinion ranking asset classes (and other factors such as turnover, etc.) in determining tax-efficiency of an investment. Portfolio allocation should be done accross all accounts and though I have looked into this myself, would appreciate another's opinion and research around which asset classes are most tax effecient (and what can make them tax inefficient), with the aim to help people place investments in the most efficient type of account (roth, tax-deferred, taxable). Thanks!
